The National President, Association of Clinical Chemists of Nigeria, Prof. Joseph Ahaneku, has called on health care providers to embrace the use of a blood gas analyser for treating emergency disorders
Ahaneku, during a symposium on point of care testing, organised by the association in Lagos, said diagnosis was important in treating ailments. “If we establish an early diagnosis, the patient will be in a position to take care of some disorders accurately. Prompt diagnosis will help in both primary and tertiary health facilities in the country.
“Blood gas analysis is the test conducted under emergency measures. If we are lucky to have the facility and the trained personnel to do that, emergency disorders such as breathing disorders, lung disorders, and respiratory diseases can easily be tackled,” Ahaneku said.
He called on stakeholders in the health care sector to ensure that there was industrial harmony, saying the main goal of all health workers was to treat the patients. The Vice President of the association, Dr Josephine Onakoya, said the symposium was organised to highlight the innovations going on in laboratory medicine.
