NAFDAC Seizes N2.6m Fake Drugs, Products at Enugu Airport

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has seized fake drugs and unwholesome products worth over N2.65m at the Akanu-Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.
This was contained in a statement by the Deputy Director/Head of Ports Inspection Directorate, Enugu State, NAFDAC, Mr John Okwori, on Tuesday.
Okwori said the consignments had expired drugs, cosmetics and medical devices imported from the United States of America and China.
According to him, the consignments are Isner Mile Minoxidil hair spray valued at N200,000; unlabelled off-white powdery substance valued at N500,000; Ecomay toothbrush for children valued at N450,000; donated drugs and medical devices by the Voom Foundation valued at N500,000; and other medical devices valued at N1m.
Okwori said other consignments, seized by the agency, were imported without approval from NAFDAC and were abandoned by their owners even as investigation was on to track the importers.
He added that they his unit was under strict directive from the NAFDAC director general that the airport must not be allowed to be turned into a smuggling channel.
