A non-government organisation, Action Health Incorporated, in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund, has started implementing the rollout of Sayana Press.
The AHI Director and co-founder of Sayana Press, Dr Uwemedimo Esiet, described AHI as an intervention geared towards providing more opportunities for voluntary access to family planning services among women of reproductive age in six local government areas of Imo state. Uwemedimo disclosed this on Monday during an advocacy meeting on the Sayana Press project held in Owerri, the state capital.
He listed the benefiting local government areas as; Owerri North, Owerri West, Orlu, Orsu, Obowo and Mbaitoli, adding that the AHI was established in 1989 and dedicated to promoting young people’s health and development, as well as ensuring their successful transition to health and reproductive adulthood.
Represented by AHI Manager, Tunde Onasanya, Uwemedimo explained that AHI had, over the last 28 years, worked with youths, parents, community and opinion leaders, policy makers, local, states and Federal Government officials to design and implement innovative and participation projects in education, reproductive health and advocacy.
“AHI has had the honour and privilege to roll out and implement this same Sayana Press project being launched in Imo, Abia, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states and reached over 30,000 women with the Sayana Press.
He commended the UNFPA for their invaluable support in providing the needed funding to implement the Sayana Press Roll Out in the state.
