  • Ending the Dilemmas of Viral Hemorrhagic Fever in Nigeria: Rethinking country's outbreak preparedness and emergency response. Dr. Chikwe lhekweazu, Director General, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control
  1. Workshop for officers on the Directorate cadre

The objectives of this workshop are; to update knowledge and competences of officers on contemporary national and global issues necessary for fostering delivery of quality and efficient service, to reinvigorate and revitalize efforts at enhancing performance management which will transform the service in the hospital from an in-put/out-put process system to a result oriented performance system and to change operational modes and produce new generation of managers who are courteous, friendly, receptive, effective, efficient and deliver quality service.

The scope of the training shall include public service rules, administrative structures, basic and effective communication in the public service, Human Resource Management, Public Service Reforms, Customer Service (Servicom), Pensions administration/Management and Implementation of Government/AMLSN policies and directives in the work place.

  1.  Partnership with Joint Commission International

Joint Commission International (JCI) works to improve patient safety and quality of health care in the international community by offering education, publications, advisory services and international accreditation and certification. In more than 100 countries, JCI partners with hospitals, clinics, and academic medical centers; health systems and agencies; government ministries; academia; and international advocates to promote rigorous standards of care and to provide solutions for achieving peak performance.

5.   Review the Performance of AMLSN Standing committees

All committees are expected to furnish the NEOs with progress reports on their performance in the last one year based on the terms of reference provided.

6.  NEO also received and reviewed reports on the progress of work of the following issues:

  • National Peace Submit. Planned to foster unity among members
  • Planning, and organizing of a launch for the construction of the ongoing AMLSN National Secretariat    in Abuja.
  • The proposed Directorate Structure for Medical Laboratory Services at the FMOH
  • Publishing of Scheme of Service for Medical laboratory scientists in the compendium of schemes of service.
  • Proposed amendment of MISCN Act 11, 2003.
  • National Post Graduate College of Medical Laboratory Science.
  • Proposed Federal Medical Centre Bill, 2018.
  • h. Inauguration of MLSCN Governing Board.
  • The progress of work on National Secretariat Building project.
  • Level of compliance to the payment of the approved Development Levy.
  • Review of AMLSN Court cases - nine judgement have been obtained in favour of AMLSN and four are pending in the court of appeal, Abuja Division.
  • The completed new AMLSN web site.
  • Journal of Medical Laboratory Science which has started online article processing and publication. Members are encouraged to visit the site to view current publications and submit articles {http://jomls.org}
  •  Status of registration of BOT with the Corporate Affairs Commission.
  • The Presidential Committee of Experts on Inter-Professional Relationships in The Public Health Sector.
  • 2019 AMLSN Budget: This budget was presented to NEO for approval and onward transmission to National Executive Council for rectification.
  • Ethics and Disciplinary Committee report: NEO reviewed the status of implementation of the recommendations of the Ethics and Disciplinary Committee on the KADA 2017 Conference and new cases from FMC Yola, where members secretly connived with management to sabotage the efforts of the Chapter and other loyal AMLSN members.
  • West African Postgraduate College of Medical Laboratory Science following the registration of the College with the Corporate Affairs Commission, the NEO approved full implementation of the take-off of the College. Implementation workshop is scheduled for the first quarter of 2019.
  •  E-learning courses: NEO in her determination to reposition the e-learning programme, approved the reconstitution of the CPO Advisory Board. New courses for the current year are being uploaded.
