In its resolve to boost health care delivery to the people, the Presidential Committee on the North-East Initiative (PCNI) has donated drugs and consumables to the Bauchi State Government for onward distribution to all the Primary Health Centers (PHCs) in the state.
The donation was announced by a member of PCNI Committee on Health, Engineer Mohammed Gambo Umar while presenting the drugs items and hospital consumables to the Commissioner of Health as well as inspection of some completed health projects in Bauchi.
He said that the development was part of President Muhammadu Buhari’s plan on North East rehabilitation programme aimed at bringing succour to the people who were devastated by Boko Haram insurgency over the years.
“We are witnessing another remarkable health care intervention on North East rehabilitation programme in Bauchi State. The drugs and consumables are meant for three Primary Health Care Centers in the three senatorial zones of the state,” he explained.
According to him, the benefiting centres are, “the PHCs includes Kofar Fada PHC in Bauchi LGA, Dambam PHC in Dambam LGA and Mashema PHC, in Itas/Gadau LGA.”
According to Gambo Umar, the PCNI collaborated with Bauchi State Government in the provision of health care services in the state such as free medical outreach that includes surgery eye surgery, paediatrics, gynaecology and. counselling across the state.
While receiving the equipment, Bauchi State Governor, Mohammed Abubakar commended the Federal Government for the intervention saying that the intervention was timely and would go a long way in adding value to the already launched 5-point health Agenda tagged ‘Lafiya Garkuwa’.
He said that the five-point health agenda of his administration was launched to provide effective healthcare delivery and to reduce maternal and child death in the state and assured that the drugs and consumables received from PCNI would be judiciously distributed across the PHCs for the benefit of the people.
Earlier, the State Commissioner for Health, Hajiya Zuwaira Ibrahim Hassan commended the initiative for donating drugs and the consumables to reduce health problems in the state.
She explained that the items donated such as anti Malaria drugs, cotton, baby delivery kits among others that are commonly used in primary health cares will go along in complementing the efforts of the government in the health sector.
