Sierra Leone Doctors Strike Over Wage,Poor Conditions, Nurses May Follow

Doctors in Sierra Leone’s public hospitals were  on  strike yesterday toprotest against low wagesand poor working condi-tions, and nurses said theymay follow suit.
Sierra Leone is one ofAfrica’s poorest countriesand its public hospitals lackequipment. The 2014-2016Ebola epidemic killed nearly4000 people,  includingmore than 250 medical staff. 
At Freetown’s Connaught, the country’s biggest hospi-tal, some wards were nearlyempty and at least a dozenpeople were  sitting on thefloor at the hospitalentrance waiting to beseen, a Reuterswitness said.
Sierra Leone’s Medical and Dental Association(SLMDA) said doctors stopped going to work on Tuesday and were ready to continue their protestindefinitely.
