Job Summary

The Junior Practice Nurse will be an integral part of a muliti-disciplinary team who will increase access to primary care and enhance quality of life of patients/customers.

The role requires a sound knowledge of General/Community nursing, as well as an interest in Maternal and Child care (Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology). The successful candidate will provide nursing care to a diverse clientele base. He/she will provide and maintain a high professional standard of nursing care in adherence to Practice protocols/policies & guidelines, as well as provide nursing assistance to the clinicians and other members of the primary healthcare team. The role of the practice nurse will be flexible in line with the present atmosphere for change within the health service delivery. It is essential that the nurse will work within own level of competency and expand her/his role in accordance with

Responsibilities will include:

1. Nursing care of acutely and chronically ill patient (out-patient and in-patient cases)

2. Monitor therapy of patients (out-patient and in-patient cases)

3. May perform patient/customer health assessments and health maintenance activities such as history taking, physical examination, wellness tests, pap and breast exams, pre-natal care, well baby care and immunization)

4. Preparation and presentations of morbidity and mortality sessions for Clinical committees

5. Audits of clinical practice and adherence to clinical guidelines.

6. Supporting the Quality Improvement manager for clinical initiatives

7. Contribute to and participate in the development and promotion of the Hospital’s vision, mission and strategic objectives (financial and non-financial).

8. Administrative duties such as seeking pre-authorization from HMOs, billing of clients/customers, writing of reports etc

9. Participating in community/client outreach activities

10. Other duties assigned by the Lead Nurse


Experience and characteristics:

The Successful candidates will possess:

• A nursing certificate/degree from an accredited nursing school in Nigeria/Abroad with at least 1 - 5 years of practice

• Midwifery qualification desirable

• Valid practice license from the nursing council

• The applicant will have practiced continuously as a nurse for the last 12 months

• A valid Basic Life support certificate from an authorized provider is desirable

• Computer literacy is essential

• An understanding of the importance of the patient as the central focus of care;

• The ability to prioritize tasks and information appropriately;

• An understanding of the importance of working effectively with others;

• The ability to communicate effectively with both colleagues and patients;

• Initiative and the ability to deal effectively with pressure and/or challenge

• Willingness to learn and unlearn
