BENIN CITY – AUTHORITIES of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, UBTH, were thrown into mourning, Wednesday evening, after Dr Omojefe Ralph, a forensic specialist in the Morbid Anatomy department of the hospital, died in a road accident with his three children, and an uncle around Okada junction, Benin-Lagos road.
It was learnt that the deceased and his family accompanied his younger sister to Lagos where she boarded a flight to the United States of America, following her winning of the American Visa Lottery. They were on their way back to Benin when the incident occurred.
President of the UBTH chapter of the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), Kingsley Okafor, who confirmed the incident, yesterday, said he had visited the family and the late Omojefe’s wife has been taken to their village in Delta State.
He said the association had declared seven days mourning when members are to wear black armband and “we will observe a minute silence every day before any clinic session.”
Contacted,  officials of the Federal Roads Safety Commission (FRSC) said they were yet to get details of the cause of the accident.
However, it was being suspected that a burst tire might have caused the accident since there was no head-on collusion with another vehicle.
